Water space is the story of volumes of water while it is formed by a bounding entity.
This project also seeks to show human involvement within these spaces both by direct
contact and also by the suggestion of involvement. Water has the innate ability to
completely blur the lines of vision for a human viewer thus creating new spaces for
imagery. An additional facet of 2 parts Hydrogen and 1 part Oxygen; while it certainly is
voluminous, it is transparent and often not visible. This project studies the connection
between this transparency and what makes it tangible.
Without a flat window in front of a viewers’ eye, water can seem nothing more than a
layer of wax to peer thru. With this secondary “window”, a new voluminous world
appears with 3 times the atmospheric pressure, an amplified aural canvas emerges and
unique abstract spaces exist. The interaction by the artist with this substance is the
primary focus of Water Space. The imagery produced by these experiences are
suggestive of these new abstract spaces both above and below the surface.
Means of ingress and egress photographed in these images capture the suggestion of
human involvement and are often the only indication of water itself. What once was
abstract color from a distance becomes clear while the stairway descends into a semi-
transparent space. Whether by gravity, natural border or concrete the spaces captured
in Water Space are presented with as little borders as possible. Images for this project
appear to float off the wall letting their natural borders be the harness within their
original setting.
Trapped oxygen ascends, fragments of a body slip off the edge, ripples radiate on the
surface; all suggestions of interaction within a new water space by the individual. Floating
from a static gallery space, Water Space is a study in interaction with this voluminous
material.
